Reduce Stress Through Exercise
You already know that regular exercise has many benefits for overall good health. I wonder how often you think of stress reduction as one of them. It’s actually one of the most important benefits.
How many times has someone said that their doctor told them their physical problem was related to stress. People tend not to believe that this is possible. They wonder whether the doctor really knows. But in fact stress is a factor in many common ailments and diseases.
Regular exercise of almost any kind (as long as it’s not overly intense for your capabilities) will lower your level of stress and also strengthen your immune system. This gives you a double advantage when it comes to fighting disease.
Regularity is the key, not technique. You can walk, jog, play a sport, swim, or run after your toddler. You don’t need expensive equipment and you don’t need special training. Just add more movement to your life. Climb the stairs. Walk across the parking lot. It doesn’t have to be complicated.
To begin with, just make small changes in your daily routine. Park the car farther away so you walk a bit more. When sitting at your desk, do some creative fidgeting and stretching. If your workstation allows it, stand up and work part of the day on your feet.
If you spend a lot of time watching TV, why not take advantage of that time to add some movement too? Buy one of those little pedal wheels or spring steppers that can be used sitting down. Your body will thank you.
Those are just a few quick tips. In fact increased exercise is just one of dozens of ways to relieve stress, but it’s an easy one to start with.
